Here at Velarof, we’re all about embracing new experiences. We believe in pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zones and trying our hand at new opportunities. Even if we try and fail, the lessons learned along the way are always invaluable.
With the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fast approaching, we’ve been thinking a lot about success. There can only be one winner in this global showpiece tournament but does that mean that the other 31 national teams will be failures? Absolutely not. In fact, quite the contrary.
In order to learn, grow and appreciate the feat of winning, one must first experience failure. Picking yourself up and trying again is one of life’s greatest lessons. As the famous Roy T. Bennett quotes goes, ‘The one who falls and gets up is stronger than the one who never tried. Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying.’
It’s a sentiment echoed by our The Zen Daruma design, which takes inspiration from the Daruma Doll. Dating back to the 17th Century, the Daruma doll is based on a sage monk named Bodhidarma, who is credited with founding Zen Buddhism.
A symbol of good luck and perseverance, the Daruma represents resilience and the ability to keep moving forward no matter what. Or as the famous Japanese proverb Nanakorobi yaoki describes, ‘Fall down seven times, stand up eight’. The idea with the Daruma is that it’ll always bounce back up whenever you knock it down.
This is an important reminder to pick yourself up, try again and never give up in life. Success takes many forms and it’s not always the feat of winning that translates to triumph. When we show our support for Japan and our brand ambassador, Junya Ito at this year’s World Cup, we’ll be celebrating their achievements no matter what the final outcome.
And what better way to embody this spirit and support your favourite team this World Cup than by wearing a pair of The Zen Daruma? Teaming monochrome branding with Daruma motifs, this distinctive design offers eclectic style and supreme comfort all day long, while giving you the confidence and resilience you need to go about your day.
But if you never try, you’ll never know.
