PATTERN DICTIONARY - ASANOHA
ASANOHA
Asanoha (麻の葉) is a traditional Japanese pattern said to bring good luck, with hexagons arranged in a regular pattern.
The hemp leaf pattern has a long history and can be seen in the decoration of Buddhist statues built about 2,000 years ago. It is said that the name was given to the hemp leaf because its shape resembles that of a hemp leaf.
Hemp leaves grow quickly, reaching 4m in just 4 months, and grow straight and fast, so the hemp leaf pattern symbolises 'strong vitality' and the wish for 'healthy growth'.
In addition, hemp does not attract insects, so hemp leaves were also used as a charm for children's birth clothes as a talisman against evil and evil spirits.
In modern times, it is a popular design in kimonos, fashion, architecture, graphic design, and more.
